Practice makes perfect. Does it matter how you practice?

"Without exception, the only people who checked themselves in at teaching hospitals were those too poor to pay for private surgery...the poor basically donated themselves as living practice material." Cadavers give the opportunity for surgeons to practice on something without harming a living thing or making any mistakes. It was horrible that surgeons in the past would experiment on poor people knowing that they could make mistakes and kill them. Sometimes they would work on things that the patient didn't even need work on. Also, animals have been used for a number of things when it comes to experimenting. Although it may seem disrespectful to do any thing other than cremate or bury a dead body, cadavers benefit science. Would there be advancements in the science of surgery, make-up and other things if cadavers could not be used to practice procedures? Had we not thought of using cadavers, could we get far with science practicing on living things and risking lives; would it be worth it?

  1. That is a very sad thing to think about It kind of reminds me of the experiments scientist used to do on people during the Holocaust. But of course because of the holocaust any type of human experiment is looked down upon which is probably why they use animals instead We could be very far and if the person is willing to be experimented on it would probably be worth it and save scientist a lot of time and money but nobody want to be looked at as a baby Nazi.

  2. No I do not believe we would get far, for the simple fact that we cannot danger others lives for science. Yes it does help but it will not last long because how many people will allow science to do random experiments on their bodies? Not many, at least not enough that we need. If cadavers are so important for science advancements, why are we using bodies for nose jobs and make-up? Cadavers are helpful yet we use them as tools to further more than science, but things like make-up. The world needs cures not make-up and we think people are going to risk their lives, would you? I know I wouldn’t because I could possibly die due to an experiment. There is no for sure reason saying after this we will be fine. I believe we would not have all the great cures and advancements if cadavers were not donated to science.
